Born in 1956 (UK), Anthony Brooks lives and works in Denmark where, under a leading university, he is a founding leader of the Medialogy education and founder/director of the SensoramaLab Virtual Reality research complex. Educated as an engineer and artist, he is active globally as a speaker and runs his own consultation and training company. For several decades, Professor Brooks’s work has revolved around the interlocking of applied interactive multimedia in the form of gesture control of video games, digital performance art, and abstract creative expression – all questioned from an applied social-cultural and ‘non-formal learning’ perspective. His scientific research is responsible for – a family of patents titled “Communication Method and Apparatus”; – EU “Future Emerging Technologies” FP6 IST Programme projects; and Danish government funded projects (approx €3M). He became known through his invention and applied research of alternative sensor-based non-invasive perceptual controllers (for games and creative expression) that empower inclusion for rehabilitation, therapy and older people. He was awarded the European Eureka International Prize for Applied Multimedia in 1999 and the Danish Research prize in 2006. He has numerous publications with credits spanning across early exhibits at the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA), London (1975/6), The Olympic/Paralympic Games (1996, 2000, 2004), European Cultural City (1996, 2000), and ongoing European MoMA interactive installation tours and public speaking engagements
